Liverpool are going to shift a number of players this summer. The Reds need to raise funds for incoming transfers and a clearout is the only way to do it. According to The Athletic, Porto are leading the race for Marko Grujic.
Marko Grujic Liverpool career
Back in February 2016 Marko Grujic became the first signing of the Jürgen Klopp era at Liverpool.
The Reds paid Red Star Belgrade £5.1m for the then 19-year-old midfielder.
Grujic arrived with a growing reputation and was compared to Steven Gerrard in style.
The Serbian has failed to convince Klopp since his arrival. As a result he’s spent plenty of his Anfield career on loan.
Cardiff City loaned Grujic for a season. This was followed by Hertha Berlin taking him for two years.
The midfielder spent last season on loan at Porto and he impressed in the second half of the season.
Porto leading Marko Grujic race
Marko Grujic is attracting plenty of interest.
The Serbian’s strong end to the campaign has led to a number of clubs sitting up and paying attention.
Porto are currently leading the Marko Grujic race according to The Athletic.
However, the Portuguese side’s move could rely on Fiorentina stumping up the cash for Porto’s Sergio Oliveira.
The report states that the Reds are looking for £15m for the 25-year-old.
Should Grujic’s most recent club fail to succeed in negotiations then there is thought to be interest from Germany and Italy.
What RTK has to say
This is a move which makes sense for all involved.
It is about time that Marko Grujic found a permanent home where he can flourish.
However, Liverpool should consider a buy-back or sell-on clause in any permanent deal.
The Serbian could realise his potential when he nails down a regular starting berth at a top side.
We should retain the option to bring him back if he does.
