Liverpool are always looking to sign the next best thing, sometimes these youngsters slip through our fingers. That’s what happened when Rennes snapped up Anderlecht’s top prospect but the Reds haven’t given up on him yet. Reported Liverpool target Jeremy Doku could light up Euro 2020, Kopites should keep an eye on him.
Liverpool interest in Jeremy Doku
In 2018 the Reds brought out the big guns to try and sign an exciting youngster.
Jürgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard spoke personally with Jeremy Doku as he toured the club’s training facilities.
Then 16-years-old, the player’s father told Het Nieuwsblad that Jürgen Klopp saw his son as a long term replacement for Sadio Mane.
The teenager decided to stay with Anderlecht, he made his debut for the first team before his 17th birthday.
Jeremy Doku joins Rennes
Last summer Doku signed Rennes in a €27m (£23.25m) deal.
The winger enjoyed an impressive debut season in France.
He earned a WhoScored rating of 7.07 across 30 appearances, not bad for a kid who only turned 19-years-old in May.
Euro 2020 showcase
This summer will see Jeremy Doku at Euro 2020 with Belgium.
The teenager could shine at the tournament, he is well thought of at international level and should be given significant game time.
The Reds are going to sign a forward this summer, Kopites should keep an eye on Doku this summer.
The Belgian could be the successor to Sadio Mane, this summer could see him live up to that hype.
If he can do it on the big stage, this summer could be the time for Michael Edwards to move. Rennes could do with the money.
