Report: PSG now leads race for Gini Wijnaldum signature

PSG now lead the race for Gini Wijnaldum, according to reports. They’ve come in late with a generous offer.

ESPN make the claim as they detail Paris Saint-Germain’s move into a fierce race. They say PSG have come in quite late with a ‘generous’ offer for Gini Wijnaldum.

It now means the Dutchman ‘leans’ towards them, other than Barcelona. And that’s not good news for the Catalonians, who met with Wijnaldum’s agents twice last week.

They also confirmed Ronald Koeman as their manager for next season – almost certainly a draw for Wijnaldum as his former national team boss.

But despite the meetings and the manager, PSG appear to have a much better offer on the table. So much better, in fact, that Wijnaldum is set to move to France.

Gini Wijnaldum to PSG?

There’s no really any chance that Wijnaldum signs a new contract with Liverpool. His final game featured a grand send-off, after all, and it appears he’s gone.

But until he’s got a new contract, there’s always a slight possibility. What if no one gives him the money he wants? What if certain clubs head in different directions? The chance was there, even if very small.

But PSG coming in with a lucrative offer almost certainly rules out a return to Liverpool. That was always the major problem, after all.

Per the Mirror, Wijnaldum wanted a fairly big contract. Liverpool wouldn’t give it to him, however, as he was over 30. PSG aren’t quite as tight with their money, for very obvious reasons.

And that means Wijnaldum gets what he wants away from Liverpool. Honestly, it always sounded as though Barcelona didn’t really have the finances to complete the move.

If they did, they’d surely have wrapped it up a while ago. Barcelona left the door open, though, and in come PSG to get Wijnaldum.

Maybe something changes over the next few days but PSG’s interest might just win his signature.

Why is Wijnaldum leaving Liverpool?
