Opinion: Liverpool can work advantage in Rodrigo De Paul transfer race

Liverpool might be able to work an advantage for Rodrigo De Paul in the transfer window. It appears the race for Udinese’s captain will be fierce.

Messaggero Veneto claims Liverpool are one of the teams hoping to bring in Rodrigo De Paul in the transfer window. But they’re not leading this race.

Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus also want Udinese’s captain and at least two of them have made moves in that direction. The message from the report is that Liverpool would need to act fast if they want him.

Atletico are the only club to make a formal offer. They’ve put forward around £17m as well as Nehuén Pérez. The latter is a young defender who just spent a season on loan with Granada.

Milan, too, are looking at cash + player deals. They haven’t figured out exactly what to offer, however.

So this is what Liverpool would compete with. In our opinion, though, there’s no great rush here. In fact, the offers on the table may work in the Reds’ advantage if they do decide to approach Udinese.

Liverpool to move for Rodrigo De Paul?

If Udinese sell their captain, they’ll want cash. Potentially quite a bit of it, too.

TuttoUdinese – of the TuttoMercatoWeb network – claimed a earlier in the year that £42m was the price-tag on De Paul. It doesn’t sound as though Atletico or Milan can meet that.

In fact, if they’re offering players, neither club will come close to meeting that figure in cash terms. Perhaps Liverpool can work that to their advantage.

We can’t imagine Liverpool will offer a player in exchange. That rarely happens with English clubs and instead, they’ll want to put up the money.

We don’t think they’d put £42m on the table but £30m? It would be a big chunk of change, though it would blow the other offers out of the water.

After all, a player Udinese may or may not be interested in will hold less value than the money. Especially as a time when finances are tight.

We’re not 100% sure Liverpool actually want De Paul, despite the reports. He is undoubtedly a very talented player, though, and that alone makes it possible.

And in that case, we don’t think there’s a rush here. In fact, if Liverpool make any sort of promise to may in cash, we imagine Udinese would reject the other offers.

This one might be on – if Liverpool want it.
