Abdul Fatawu Issahaku looks quite incredible in a highlights video posted by the CAF. Liverpool supposedly want the teenager.
It really does look like Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is a star in the marking – if we’re going by this latest highlights video. The 17-year-old plays in Ghana, so we don’t have too much to go on.
The teenager starred for his country at the AFCON Under 20s tournament, which Ghana won. In fact, Fatawu won the Best Player award for his efforts.
The first thing that strikes us about him is the confidence. Fatawu does everything with total belief in himself. Maybe that’s having a pop from 40 yards – which he does several times in the video – or just the way he moves past defenders.
But for a highlights package that only covers one tournament and six games, there’s a lot to see. Fatawu shows an ability to score goals, create goals, run with the ball, take set-pieces.
His touch is fantastic, both controlling the ball and running with it. He looks absolutely rapid, too, and exudes star potential.
Yes, the quality isn’t exactly Champions League – it’s the AFCON U20s – but you rarely see 17-year-old’s look this good at any level. Fatawu does seem special.
And that would explain why Liverpool reportedly want him.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to Liverpool?
It’s been an interesting week in regards to links between Fatawu and Liverpool. We first heard of it from Goal.
They claimed that Liverpool, along with Borussia Dortmund, were making a late surge to beat Bayer Leverkusen to his signature. But then things took a turn.
Kicker claimed that Leverkusen pulled out of talks because they believed the teenager’s agent was using Liverpool to drive up his price.
So all in all, we don’t actually know the situation. It’s hard to read and given we know very little about the player, it’s also a hard one to judge.
All we can really say with certainty is that Fatawu looks like a very, very special player judging by his AFCON highlights. If that’s a fair representation of his skill, then we can fully believe that Liverpool want him.
But as always, we’ll just have to wait and see.
