Report: Liverpool hope to raise £38m by selling 3 players

Liverpool want to bring in around £38m by selling three players, according to reports. They’re players Jurgen Klopp has never really used.

This comes from the Athletic. They claim Liverpool will be selling players this summer.

In fact, the Reds have to if they’re to add to their squad. They did sign Ibrahima Konate on Friday but that’ll be it if they don’t boost their transfer funds by offloading players.

Fortunately, they may be able to do it without losing first-team players. The Athletic’s report highlights three sales from loan stars that could significantly add to their cash.

Both Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson could leave for £15m each, they say. Grujic spent the campaign with FC Porto, while Wilson was with Cardiff City.

Then there’s Taiwo Awoniyi. The forward has never actually played for Liverpool but impressed with Union Berlin on loan. The Reds believe they could get £8m for him.

Altogether, then, Liverpool see £38m here. That could be enough to secure a very useful signing over the summer.

Liverpool selling players

Liverpool are probably a little frustrated, if these figures are accurate. The Liverpool Echo had both Grujic and Wilson down as £20m players back in September.

But neither had an outstanding loan deal, so it’s understandable that their values dropped. Still, it’ll be a blow to Liverpool, who will have hoped their values would rise over the past season.

Regardless, you can only use what you’ve got and Liverpool intend to get the most out of their squad. For many, that means moving them on for decent fees.

It’s unfortunate that Liverpool have to sell to buy, of course. But if that’s the reality, then they’ve got to make sure they get full amounts for these players. After all, there’s no better way to improve the squad than moving on players you don’t need and bringing in key transfers.
