Liverpool are in talks with Hakan Calhanoglu, according to reports. The Reds hope to sign the 27-year-old on a free transfer.
This comes from CalcioMercato. They claim Liverpool are talking with Hakan Calhanoglu over a move this summer.
Calhanoglu is out of contract with AC Milan next month and it appears highly unlikely that he stick around. And if he’s moving, the 27-year-old has his sights on a step up from Milan.
That’s the assumption after he rejected a very lucrative offer from Qatari side Al-Duhail. This won’t be a move for the money, then.
Juventus could also make a move for Calhanoglu but the upheaval there right now asks far more questions than it answers about transfer plans. And then there’s Liverpool.

Calhanoglu’s agents are apparently in talks with Liverpool but there hasn’t been any formal offer. These could well be very early talks, then, where the Reds merely sound out a potential deal than move forward with anything.
Hakan Calhanoglu to Liverpool?
It’s a move that makes some sense. Most free transfers do, to be fair, especially when the player in question is right in his prime.
Calhanoglu is certainly that, having just enjoyed a very productive season with Milan. They qualified for the Champions League after a 10-year absence and the Turkish international more than played his part.
It’s easy to see why Liverpool would want him, too. Calhanoglu picked up 10 assists this season from two different positions. Jurgen Klopp could use him centrally as an attacking midfielder or from the left.
That kind of versatility fits in nicely at Liverpool where most players can play two or three roles. Calhanoglu would be able to play alongside any of the forwards, or in front of a midfield two.
A long way to go, of course, but Calhanoglu to Liverpool could be one to watch.
