Liverpool are in dire need for strength in depth up top. The Reds are destined to sign a forward before the start of next season but who that will be is anybody’s guess. According to a report, Liverpool could make an offer for Jonathan Ikone at Lille.

Attacking reinforcements

Liverpool have struggled for form in front of goal since January.

The Reds thrashed Crystal Palace 7-0 in December but they have been wasteful since then.

The lack of goals has highlighted the dire need for some fresh blood up front.

The front three have been together for four seasons now and a shake up is needed to spark some life into the attack.

There is also the issue of a lack of depth, meaning our attacking trio are run into the ground and fatigued come the business end of the season.

Liverpool linked with Jonathan Ikone

This week has thrown up yet another potential target.

Transfer journalist Pedro Almeida has claimed Liverpool could make a move for Jonathan Ikone.

The journo has claimed the Reds have begun negotiations with €25m (£21.5m) and Xherdan Shaqiri on the table.

Ikone was part of the Lille side which stormed to a surprise title win in France this term, he was deployed as both a forward and a right winger.

What RTK has to say

We are going to take this rumour with a huge pinch of salt.

We cannot speak to the reliability of the source but we still should give an opinion on the matter.

Ikone would be a confusing signing to say the least, he scored four and assisted five this term in the league.

For a regular starter in a title winning side this is a pretty weak return.

We can only assume that if these reports are true then the Reds must see something in the lad, he is only 23-years-old after all – there’s plenty of time for him to kick on.
