Liverpool hope to sign Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, according to reports. The 17-year-old is making a name for himself in Ghana.
This comes from Goal. They claim Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is still up for grabs and Liverpool hope to sign the player.
Issahaku is close to a deal with Bayer Leverkusen, however, suggesting Liverpool have a tough task on to sway him their way. They’re not even the only club trying a late bid, either – Borussia Dortmund hope to do the same.
Liverpool to sign Abdul Fatawu Issahaku?
Issahaku is still only 17 but has a growing reputation. He’s currently starring for Steadfast FC in the Ghanian 2nd tier.
It’s easy to read that wonder why Liverpool have any interest. But this is a kid who’s somehow managing to earn international recognition while playing in a league with next to no visibility.
Leverkusen, Dortmund and Liverpool aren’t easy clubs to impress, either – all three have fantastic academy programs. If they want Issahaku, it’s clear there’s an awful lot of talent there.
The teenager already has a deal with Nike, says the Goal article, while they also claim Steadfast value their gem at £2m. That’s a quite enormous price for a teenager in African football.

The big question, then – can Liverpool sign him?
It seems unlikely if he’s close to signing with Leverkusen. They’ve obviously offered him something he likes, be it financially or a solid place in their development system. Turning him away from that will be as big a job as convincing him Liverpool is the right place.
But it’s certainly not impossible. Liverpool have an incredible youth system and a proven track record over the last few years. That’s going to turn the head of any kid looking to hit the big time in football.
So while we’re not going to hold our breath on this one, we don’t think it’s right to entirely rule it out. Time will tell, as always.
