There’s no denying this has been a tough season for Liverpool. The Reds have struggled throughout and injuries have been at the core of the side’s struggles. Despite it all they managed to finish third. Mark Bosnich has praised Liverpool for their ‘monumental effort’.
Season of struggle
Plenty of us thought that Liverpool were going to steamroll the league this season.
We ran away with it last term and we were confident heading into this campaign.
Then it all came apart in the autumn, within weeks of each other Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were ruled out for the season.
Thereafter the injuries just kept piling up with key players missing for months at a time.
Despite the fitness problems we were still top at Christmas but January saw a free fall as fatigue caught up with the lads.
Then we did the impossible, Liverpool clawed it back and ended up finishing third with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on the final day.

The Reds finishing third has amazed fans and pundits alike.
Given the problems Jürgen Klopp faced it is a huge achievement.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mark Bosnich heaped praise on Liverpool:
“There was no doubt they had it in them but when they lost Virgil van Dijk it was always going to be an uphill battle.
“It’s been a monumental effort you have to say considering all the problems that they’ve had throughout the season, to get into the top four.
“I know they don’t get a trophy per se but they deserve one because the form that they’ve shown and the effort that they’ve made to get into the top four is a real tribute to Jurgen Klopp, his coaching staff and his men because it’s not been easy.”
