Liverpool have had a rollercoaster ride of a season. The Reds have suffered through the worst injury crisis the division has ever seen and yet the side still finished third. Emile Heskey has praised Liverpool for a phenomenal season, highlighting the benefit of elevating Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams.
Rollercoaster Liverpool season
We all thought that the Reds would romp to the title again this season.
Liverpool ran away with it the season before and started the 2020/21 campaign brightly with wins over Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Things started to fall apart when Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season in October.
Shortly afterwards Joe Gomez suffered the same fate and other injuries began piling up.

The Reds were top at Christmas and then eighth in March.
Miraculously they fought back and finished the season strongly, ending the campaign in third place.
Emile Heskey on ‘phenomenal’ Liverpool
Liverpool’s success has been recognised far and wide.
Speaking exclusively to Rousing the Kop, Emile Heskey praised Liverpool for their impressive finish and highlighted the success of Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips:
“Huge [achievement], arguably one of their best achievements. At one stage I think nine points off Leicester and then to finish third, only 17 points off Man City who ran away with it.
“With the injuries that we’ve had, to real key players, we’ll look back and say this is a phenomenal season.
“When you look at it, what was achieved and how it was achieved..and we’ve unearthed a couple of gems at centre back who have a real real bright future at Liverpool.”
What RTK has to say
This was a truly remarkable campaign.
We hit the lowest lows and saw some of the highest highs.
Now we can draw a line under the nightmare and come back fighting next season. We can’t wait.
