Naby Keita has opened the door to Atletico Madrid, according to reports. The midfielder could be off this summer.

This comes from AS in Spain. They claim Naby Keita ‘has approached’ Atletico Madrid over a transfer.

There will be changes at Atletico, says the piece, and that might include a shakeup in midfield. Keita, then, would have a clear place in the squad.

Where that isn’t the case at Liverpool. Keita doesn’t get along with Klopp, says AS, and is looking for a way out ‘especially if the German remains in charge’ (we imagine he will).

So as the summer approaches, Keita has his representatives sounding out moves elsewhere. Atletico, presumably, is near the top of any list.

Naby Keita to Atletico?

It’s a very dramatic claim – Keita approaching other clubs, doesn’t like Klopp, forcing his way out. We’re not entirely sure the situation is how they put it.

Though, we wouldn’t be shocked if there are elements of real truth here. Keita is yet to solidify his position at Liverpool since his £53m arrival and that may force a change this summer.

In fact, we wondered just the other day if Keita has played his final game for the club. He’s out of Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace, so the change is there.

But there’s a long way to go yet. For one, this rumour would have to be true. It’s worth mentioning that a journalist from Guinea, where Keita is from, also believes he could leave this summer. As do the Sunday World.

If Atletico want the player, though, they’ll have to put up quite a bit of cash. We can’t imagine Liverpool would demand £53m for him but they won’t want to lose big on Keita. It’ll still take a substantial offer.

A long way to go, then, even if Keita is offering himself around.
