FC Porto believe they can get the better of Liverpool this summer and bring back Marko Grujic. The Serbian plays his farewell game today.
This comes from Record in Portugal. They claim Porto would like to sign Marko Grujic this summer from Liverpool once again.
They face a problem, however. Liverpool’s asking-price is too high and the Reds don’t appear flexible with it. Porto can’t sign him as long as that price remains.
They suspect Liverpool might have this one wrong, though. Porto believe the price may be too high for anyone to pay this summer – as was the case a year ago.
Liverpool couldn’t find a buyer then, either, and eventually had to send him off on loan. Porto think the exact same situation may happen this year, too.

So they don’t plan on bidding just yet. Instead, Porto will wait it out and see if they’re right, before offering Liverpool another loan move for Grujic.
Porto want Grujic from Liverpool
It sounds like a bad plan but it is what happened last year. That suggests it could happen again.
The big problem for the Reds is that a season without fans will tighten the purse strings around Europe. Very few clubs will be able to offer Liverpool their Grujic valuation. So either they take the guaranteed smaller money, or they wait a year in case things improve.
Porto, clearly, bank on the latter happening.
At the same time, it all means we might not get an answer on this one for months. Liverpool will know if Porto are open to a loan, so it means sense to wait until the end of the window to do it. It can just be the ‘safety’ option while shopping Grujic around Europe.
It’s a shame that Grujic’s career has become this. He’s a very talented player and one who, in a different era, would play regularly for Liverpool. Instead, he doesn’t have an obvious place in the squad.
Hopefully, he can find a permanent move this summer because he deserves to finally get his career on track. As things are, Grujic is just moving from loan club to loan club, never really getting a chance to play settled football.
He might need to put up with another year of that, though. But a return to Porto would certainly be his next-best option.
As for Liverpool, they really need to decide how much Grujic is worth.
