Report: Liverpool interested in Bundesliga’s Matthias Ginter

Liverpool are going to sign a centre back in the summer, we can be confident of that. The Reds are short handed at the back and that needs resolving immediately; we can’t have a repeat of this season. According to SportBild in Germany, Liverpool are interested in Matthias Ginter of Borussia Monchengladbach.

Centre back necessity

There’s no doubting that we will address the centre back department this summer.

The Reds lost Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for the season early on in the campaign and Joel Matip bowed out in January.

The trio’s absence has served as a harsh lesson when it comes to replacing outgoing stars, Dejan Lovren was sold last summer without a successor brought it.

Although Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak were signed in the winter window there’s a feeling at least one of them was a stop gap, more deals are likely.

Liverpool want Matthias Ginter

According to SportBild, Liverpool are interested in Matthias Ginter.

The Reds are reportedly looking to battle Spurs for the 27-year-old’s signature.

Ginter has made 33 appearances in the Bundesliga this term, scoring twice and assisting once – not bad for a centre back.

Naturally a centre back the German has also been deployed on the right of the defence.

Although the Reds are said to be interested Spurs appear more determined with Bild claiming they’ve already submitted a bid for the Bundesliga star.

What RTK has to say

This rumour just doesn’t make sense to us.

Given that the Reds are thought to be close to tying up a deal for Ibrahima Konate we can’t see another big money move being made.

Should Liverpool indeed be interested in Matthias Ginter then he would likely be an alternative to Ozan Kabak.

However, given his age compared to Kabak this doesn’t seem to make sense.
