Jurgen Klopp has an exciting perspective on ‘world-class’ Thiago. The Liverpool boss believes there’s an awful lot more to come.

Thiago arrived at Liverpool with an awful lot of promise. He was a star for Bayern Munich over one of the most dominant periods of their history and had just starred in their Champions League triumph.

In a lot of ways, his £20m arrival was the biggest signing in Liverpool’s history. They’d never signed such a global star, usually resorting to players they could develop themselves.

With Thiago, though, they were getting a player right in his prime. And it was a world-class prime.

Unfortunately, Thiago didn’t arrive to the team he thought he would. Liverpool have been a mess all season, not once having their best XI out. It meant the Spaniard had to adapt to a team that barely knew itself.

The result? Struggles. Thiago didn’t play all that well when he got his first taste of consistent Liverpool football in January. He looked like a misfit in a team that was already losing touch with itself.

Time does help, though. Thiago looks more and more in-tune with Liverpool with every passing game. His form over the last three or four has been sensational, in fact.

That led to him matching his career-best for creating chances against West Brom. Things are really clicking for him.

And that only makes Jurgen Klopp’s latest comments all the more exciting.

Klopp on ‘world-class’ Thiago

“[Thiago] is a world-class football player but he came as well from a pandemic, after the lockdown in Germany when they started playing again he had to play Bundesliga games and the Champions League final,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com.

“He came here to a new club with a little, little, little break only; arrived here, got injured and had to restart again with a team that was not settled.

“That’s massive, that’s nearly impossible. What he did in these moments is absolutely incredible. Now, things look like more settled, that’s clear in the moment with some results going in our direction, which helps as well, [it] gives confidence to everybody.

“Now it looks different and better. But we are not even halfway there, Thiago is not halfway there.”

Given how good Thiago has been in recent weeks, Klopp’s belief that he’s not even ‘halfway’ to fully adapting is exciting to say the least. Just how high does he see his potential?

Honestly, we just can’t wait to see Thiago in action next season. A full campaign (fingers crossed) with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson around him should lead to even better performances.

Add in his first pre-season with Liverpool and it does feel like we’re only getting a taste of Thiago right now. And if Klopp’s right – that this isn’t even halfway to his best – then we’re in for a real treat next season.
