Report: Liverpool offer new contract to Adrian despite his struggles

Liverpool have offered Adrian a new contract, according to reports. The Reds will try to keep him at the club.

This comes from the Daily Mail. They claim that Adrian has a new contract offer on the table from Liverpool.

His current deal expires at the end of the season, with the expectation being that he was off. Adrian has only played six times this season, after all, and not to great success.

Those six games feature two League Cup ties, too, with only two Premier League fixtures and one Champions League. One of those league fixtures was a 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa.

Adrian had an absolute shocker that day, losing his nerve early on and never finding it again. His poor spell saw him drop down to third-choice behind Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher.

But the Mail says Liverpool don’t want to spend any money on replacing Adrian this summer. And with no better free alternatives, the Reds have put a new contract offer on the table.

All that remains to be seen is if Adrian wants first-team football or if he’s happy with his bench role with Liverpool.

Adrian receives new contract offer

Well, we really didn’t see this one coming. Adrian has barely played this season and when he has, the Spaniard has looked far from up to the task.

Perhaps that’s harsh, given his last outing was a 2-0 win away at Sheffield United. That 7-2 defeat will live long in the memory, however.

The Mail’s report claims Tom Heaton was an option at one point, given he’s out of contract with Aston Villa. He’s set to join Manchester United, though.

And that makes Adrian the best freebie Liverpool can find. He probably is, to be fair – it’s not a big market and at least he knows everyone at the club.

He may well feature for the Reds again, then.
