Twin summer signings score to send Liverpool into 2021 Youth Cup final

Liverpool are into the 2021 Youth Cup final after a 2-1 win over Ipswich Town. The Reds can thank two summer signings for the result.

Liverpool Under 18s will play in their second Youth Cup final in three years after beating Ipswich 2-1. They had to fight for this one, though.

Ipswich took the lead in first-half stoppage time but second-half goals from Mateuz Musialowski and Melkamu Frauendorf turned things around. Frauendorf’s winner came with just seven minutes to go.

Musialowski needed a heavy deflection to find the net with his goal. Though, his drop of the shoulder to create space for the shot showed off just how special this kid is.

Frauendorf, who came off the bench for Musialowski, showed great footwork to work his shot in a crowded box. He somehow found enough power behind it to beat the goalkeeper, who got a hand to it but couldn’t stop it from finding the net.

2021 Youth Cup

This is a fantastic sign that the current crop of youngsters is as good as we think it is. There’s an awful lot to shout about right now and this only backs that up.

Just last week, we were raving about Kaide Gordon after he scored on his Under 23 debut. There are the likes of Leighton Clarkson, Jake Cain and Billy Koumetio all looking like potential first-team players.

But even in the younger age group, there is so much talent that appears genuinely special. To see them put it together to make the Youth Cup final is magnificent, then – they’re backing up that promise.

Musialowski stands out in that regard. We’ve written before about how excited we are there. The Pole is scoring consistently and good goals, too. He’s also shone in first-team training and truly looks like a star-in-the-making.

Win for the transfer gurus

It’s interesting that it was Musialowski and Frauendorf who got the goals. Both arrived ahead of this season in reasonably high-profile moves for such young players.

Frauendorf, certainly, arrived with hype. There was reportedly a lot of competition, with Bayern Munich at least monitoring the player.

He’s quickly established himself as an option at U18 level, with this being his most notable moment to date. What a moment it is, though.

Musialowski, who joined last August, has quickly become a name fans know. He’s scored some sensational goals already, one of which came in the last round against Arsenal.

Liverpool’s progression into the final puts them close to a victory for everyone at the club, then. The transfer gurus are finding the right players, while the coaches are developing them wonderfully and getting the kids clicking together.

There is an awful lot to be excited about at the Academy right now. Roll on the final.
