Liverpool don’t appear to be in for Boubakary Soumare. The Reds must have something special lined up to pass on the 22-year-old.
We haven’t seen anything for a while on Liverpool moving for Boubakary Soumare. There were reports once upon a time, though.
But as we near the transfer window, we aren’t hearing anything. It appears Liverpool aren’t in the race, despite there very much being a race.
RMC Sport claim Leicester City are trying to get in there first, offering around £22m to Lille for their midfielder. And if Liverpool truly aren’t interested at that price, they must have something special in mind.

Liverpool don’t want Boubakary Soumare?
Gini Wijnaldum will almost certainly leave Liverpool this summer at the end of his contract. That opens up a gaping hole in the Reds’ midfield.
He’s the only current option who isn’t either frequently out with injury or struggling with form. Wijnaldum is as consistent as it gets – and that’s vital for Liverpool.
He’ll need replacing but Liverpool have another need. Wijnaldum, Thiago and Jordan Henderson are all 30. James Milner is 35. The Reds must bring in more youth if they’re to stay successful in a few years’ time.
That’s not to say they have to sign some teenagers but it undoubtedly benefits them to think long-term with their next signings. And that’s why someone like Soumare makes sense.
He’s still only 22 but has a few years experience in Ligue 1. He fits the profile, too, of a midfielder capable of pressing and physicality.
As we detailed here, Soumare is capable of delivering a little bit of everything in a game. That’s a quality Liverpool’s midfield thrives on.
And as Lille march towards the title, Soumare is proving himself in high-pressure games. There’s a whole lot to like here for a young player. Let alone one reportedly available for £25m.
It makes us think that Liverpool must have something quite special lined up if they truly don’t want Soumare. We know they must sign a midfielder this summer but perhaps they’ve found someone who fits the bill even better.
If we had to guess, we imagine that player is Brighton’s Yves Bissouma. He’s a little older, a little more proven, and wouldn’t be much more expensive.
And with Soumare available on the relative-cheap, it better be a signing that good to turn Liverpool’s gaze.
