Chelsea want to sign Mohamed Salah, according to reports. It’s a notable plan and, potentially, a worrying one.
This comes from Bild journalist Christian Falk. He claims Mohamed Salah is on the Chelsea shortlist this summer.
It’s a surprising one, to say the least. Salah used to play at Chelsea, of course, only for them to give up and ship him out to Italy.
Salah proved himself in Serie A before joining Liverpool, where he quickly became one of the world’s best forwards. Though, his history there is far from the reason this is surprising.
Primarily, why on earth would Liverpool sell Salah to Chelsea?

Mohamed Salah to Chelsea?
Liverpool shouldn’t really be in the business of selling key players to Premier League rivals. And we can’t imagine they are.
It’s hard to think of any realistic amount of money that would make this worth their while. For that reason alone, we can’t see it happening.
Though, some may point out further history, here. Liverpool did sell Fernando Torres to Chelsea back in 2011 and that proved to be a decent bit of business.
The Spaniard was finished as an elite forward and Liverpool then built around Luis Suarez, who joined the Reds on the same day. The different here is that Salah is very far from finished.
In fact, he’s the best forward at the club by some distance right now. Liverpool are almost dangerously reliant on Salah.
So, to sum up, we can’t see Liverpool selling him to Chelsea. Not unless they offer an absolutely unfathomable amount.
But honestly, their supposed interest alone is notable in of itself.
Reason to believe
Elite clubs aren’t always run in the smartest way, certainly. We learned that a few weeks ago.
Though, what they don’t do is put impossibilities into their plans. It just doesn’t make sense to – you focus on what you think could happen this summer.
No one wants to waste time, effort and planning on something that just isn’t going to happen. For instance, we can’t imagine Liverpool are working their pursuit of Kevin De Bruyne into their own summer plans.
They would do, however, if they had a suggestion that it’s possible. And that’s what worries us a little here.
If Bild are accurate, then Chelsea appear to think there is a chance they could get Salah. Maybe it’s a tiny chance that they’re merely keeping an eye on but something seems to have convinced them it’s worth a thought.
Maybe that’s Liverpool wanting to sell Salah. Maybe it’s Salah wanting to leave Liverpool. Either way, it’s a little worrying if Chelsea truly do believe there’s something to monitor.
We highly doubt this is the end of Salah talk, then. Chelsea won’t be the last club linked if the Egyptian could leave this summer. Even if the chance is small.
