Liverpool have had a tough season, one which is widely expected to be a mere blip. In order to ensure that this season is an anomaly the club will have to act decisively over the summer, it could be a massive transfer window. Given his contract situation, Liverpool need to sell Mo Salah this summer or renew his contract ASAP.
Gini Wijnaldum departure
The end of this season sees the expiry of Gini Wijnaldum’s contract.
The 30-year-old Dutchman has been with the Reds since 2016, when he joined from a relegated Newcastle United side.
In the five years since his arrival he has played more football then nearly every player in the squad.
The midfielder has been an undroppable cog in Jürgen Klopp’s midfield machine, the boss moulding the ex-Magpies man into an all action box-to-box ball winner.

Despite his importance to the side the club are unwilling to agree to a pay hike which would keep him at the club.
As a result Barcelona are expected to snap him up on a free transfer at the end of the season, ex-Netherland’s boss Ronald Koeman is allegedly enamoured with the midfielder.
Mo Salah contract
As it stands Mo Salah’s contract with Liverpool expires in 2023.
One of the club’s top earners, the Egyptian’s importance to the team cannot be understated.
Since arriving on Merseyside from Roma the right winger has gone on to smash records for fun.
Despite his world class ability there are still some murmurs of uncertainty surrounding his future.
Sell Mo Salah or renew his deal
The debacle unfolding around Gini Wijnaldum at the moment should serve as a stark warning to the Reds.
We cannot afford to let this happen again any time soon.
It is remarkable that this is happening at all given that we let Emre Can go on a free transfer a few years ago.
After that episode we were certain that the Reds wouldn’t lose another valuable player for nothing yet here we are.
Given that Mo Salah’s contract expires in 2023 we need to sell him this summer or renew his deal immediately.
If we don’t tie him down to an extension then next summer we could be forced into cutting a cut price deal for him.
Should the club refuse such a bargain exit then we could face the ignominy of losing him on a free.
The Egyptian has told Sky Sports that talks about a new deal are yet to begin. They need to soon.
Otherwise, we need to cash in and bring in an exciting young replacement such as Jadon Sancho or Kylian Mbappe – any other move would be a step backwards.
