Report: Liverpool in talks for Yves Bissouma to fix approaching problem

Liverpool are in talks over Yves Bissouma, according to reports. The Reds are looking to fix an upcoming problem.

This comes from the Sunday World. They claim Liverpool are currently in talks over a deal for Yves Bissouma.

The player and his people are aware of Liverpool’s interest, too, for what could prove to be a £35m transfer. It’s clear that they player would be a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum’s contract expires at the end of the season and it looks highly likely that he’ll move on. After all, if Liverpool wouldn’t meet his demands up to now, it’s hard to believe they’ll suddenly improve their offer.

The Sunday World’s report claims he’ll move to Barcelona and few would be surprised. It’s long felt like a natural fit, given his ex-national team boss Ronald Koeman is in charge there.

But that would leave Liverpool with a gap in their midfield options. Wijnaldum has been a regular for years now and carved out a spot this season as the only reliable option at the club.

Everyone else has battled injuries or form, while the Dutchman has consistently delivered no matter what Jurgen Klopp asks. He’s been a holding player, as a more attacking midfielder, his usual box-to-box role and as part of a midfield two.

Replacing that won’t be easy. Bissouma, however, could be the answer.

Liverpool in talks for Bissouma

We really like Bissouma, so we’re thrilled Liverpool are reportedly in talks. He’s a player that fits the bill to near-perfection.

Bissouma is still only 24 but has three years of Premier League experience and another two in Ligue 1. He’s playing at a very high level, too, comparing magnificently to other Premier League midfielders.

We also think Bissouma could fit better than Wijnaldum in certain formations. His specialised defensive skillset makes him ideal for a midfield two.

There’s a lot of potential here and we can only imagine the magic Klopp could work with Bissouma. There’s definitely a chance he goes on to achieve similar levels as Wijnaldum has – and you can’t really ask for much more.

So for £35m, this could end up being a bargain. Bissouma ticks all kinds of boxes, be it experience or potential, while fitting perfectly, too.

Liverpool shouldn’t hesitate if they can get this one done. They’re unlikely to find a better option.
