Liverpool have held talks with the agent of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.
If reports from Inside Futbol are to be believed, the club have also made contact with the Italian club about a potential deal.
Liverpool are understood to have an “advanced interest” in the 21-year-old, but they will face competition from AC Milan for his signature.
Fiorentina are prepared to sell the player for a fee between €40m-€50m.
The Reds appear keen to add some attacking signings this summer.
Divock Origi is expected to leave, meaning there would be no orthodox centre-forward in the squad.
Vlahovic could be the best of the rest
The Partizan Belgrade academy graduate is in his third season in Florence. However, this is the first year where Vlahovic has been a guaranteed starter.
Considering the fact that he only turned 21 in January, he has had a phenomenal campaign.
He has scored 17 league goals so far this season. This is only less than Mbappe and Haaland among under 23-year-olds in Europe’s top five leagues.
Crucially, the Serb also has a high xG of 15.3, which means it is not just a purple patch. He is overperforming yes, but not at an unsustainable rate.
Vlahovic is averaging 2.7 shots per 90, with 37% of these going on target.
He is a decent facilitator too, with three assists this season and an xA of 2.7. His 0.5 key passes per game is not a bad amount either.
The seven-cap international uses his 6’3″ frame very well in hold-up play. His 91 aerial duels won is the seventh most in Serie A.
He has only scored one header this season but would benefit from quality delivery from the full-backs at Liverpool.
If Vlahovic does move to Merseyside, he will have to improve his pressing. He is making 0.4 tackles and interceptions per game, which is not bad but not quite up to Jurgen Klopp’s expectations.
He is both the youngest player and goal-scorer in Partizan’s history, so Dusan Vlahovic has been on his way to superstardom for quite some time.
Perhaps the next step on his journey is a move to one of the best teams in the game.
