Liverpool are going to have to make some big decisions over the summer. One of the most pressing matters is just who will be at the centre of defence. According to the president of SC Braga, Liverpool almost signed David Carmo in January.

Centre back up in the air
There is no telling what the Reds’ centre back roster will be next season.
Jürgen Klopp has lost everyone of his senior centre backs to injury this term.
The Reds brought in a pair of defenders during the January window but neither are nailed on as long term solutions.
There are questions marks hanging over the future of Joel Matip with the Cameroonian’s injury record particularly worrying.
We’re likely a long way off a settled squad of centre backs.
Liverpool nearly signed David Carmo
The winter transfer window just gone was a hectic one.
Many expected the Reds to bring players in immediately but instead they waited until the 11th hour.
According to SC Braga president António Salvador, Liverpool nearly signed David Carmo.
The 21-year-old centre back stayed put in Portugal with Salvador telling Marca:
“In January, for example, David Carmo had a foot and a half at Liverpool, but we ended up retaining him.
“He is a player who, despite being injured at the moment, continues to have several suitors, even in Spain…
“To have a balanced budget, we have to receive between 12.5 and 15 million a year in transfers.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Carmo would’ve been interesting.
He’s been linked with the good and the great in recent years.
AS previously reported that Braga wanted £21m for the youngster with Real Madrid also in pursuit.
Whether or not we reignite interest remains to be seen, it certainly isn’t off the table.
