'Would be ideal': Emile Heskey backs Liverpool to move for Kalvin Phillips

Liverpool have been having a tumultuous season to say the least. The Reds squad has been stretched thin by injuries and as a result many expect the club to invest in reinforcements over the summer. Liverpool were previously linked with a move for Kalvin Phillips, the move has been backed by Emile Heskey.

Midfield reinforcements needed

Liverpool have had the squad knackered by injuries this season.

Jürgen Klopp has seen swathes of first team stars ruled out for prolonged periods.

Although the centre of defence has been worst hit, the midfield has seen key players drop into the back four to cover.

This has led to a constant chopping and changing in the side, a cycle which the boss will be hoping to avoid next season.

In order to avoid this problem next term we expect a couple of midfielders to be signed, along with some reinforcements in defence.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

Emile Heskey on Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips

Earlier this season The Mirror linked Liverpool with a move for Kalvin Phillips.

The outlet claimed that the Leeds United midfielder would be available for £50m.

The Yorkshireman will be lining up against the Reds on Monday night, ahead of the game we asked Emile Heskey if Kalvin Phillips would be a good signing, he told Rousing the Kop:

“100%. I was very very impressed with him against Man City. His energy was amazing. Dropping back into the back four to tidy up there and then coming out and pressing when needed but pressing with energy.

“95th minute I was watching him running around chasing that ball, making sure that no Man City player had time on the ball.

“I was so impressed with that but not just that but his understanding of that number 4 role of protecting the back four has been phenomenal. He would be ideal there for Liverpool.”

What RTK has to say

We’ll be paying close attention to Phillips’ performance on Monday night.

He could well be the ideal successor to Jordan Henderson in the future.

Whether or not we are interested and whether or not Leeds would sell is up for debate. We can only wait and see.
