Mark Lawrenson tells Liverpool to sign Gini Wijnaldum replacement

Liverpool are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window. There is plenty of business to be done with a number of stars expected to leave. One key player is pretty certain to exit the club. Mark Lawrenson has told Liverpool to sign a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

Gini Wijnaldum contract

The end of this season marks the expiration of Gini Wijnaldum’s contract at Liverpool.

The Dutchman has been a key player for the Reds since he joined the club in the summer of 2016.

Few players have clocked as many minutes as the midfielder in the past five years.

Despite his importance to the side the club have failed to agree terms on an extension for him with the thinking being that he may not be as crucial to the side in a couple of year’s time.

Barcelona are currently considered to be the front runners for the midfielder’s signature.

Mark Lawrenson on Gini Wijnaldum

The speculation surrounding the midfielder has been one of the biggest talking points of the Reds’ season.

Mark Lawrenson has weighed in on the Gini Wijnaldum situation, telling Off The Ball:

“The old pro in me kind of looks at him and thinks, well, you almost like want to leave him out. He is saying to the club, ‘See you later, I am out of here’.

“They will have offered him a really really good contract obviously, so he needs replacing.”

What RTK has to say

This is going to be one of the Reds’ priorities this summer.

We can’t repeat the mistake of selling Dejan Lovren without replacing him.

The Reds simply have to bring in a successor but just who that will be is unclear at the moment.

Our first choice is probably Yves Bissouma owing to his Premier League experience.
