Liverpool have had some cult heroes in their day. Perhaps the best current example is Divock Origi. One player who was adored by the Kop during his time at Anfield has spoken about his career on Merseyside. Pepe Reina has described playing for Liverpool as the best thing that ever happened to him.
Pepe Reina career
Liverpool signed Pepe Reina in the summer of 2005.
The Spanish goalkeeper arrived from Villareal shortly after the Reds lifted the Champions League in Istanbul.
He forced Jerzy Dudek to the bench and he went on to win the Premier League Golden Glove three seasons in a row, beginning in his debut season.
The Spaniard’s reflexes and distribution established him as one of the very best goalkeepers in the world; though his international appearances were restricted by the great Iker Casillas.

Eventually Reina was usurped by Simon Mignolet. Pepe headed to Napoli on loan before joining Bayern Munich.
He later returned Napoli ahead of stints at Aston Villa and Milan. He’s currently between the sticks at Lazio.
Pepe Reina on Liverpool
The Spaniard was adored by the Kop and he loved us back.
Pepe Reina has spoken about his love for Liverpool, with Area Napoli quoting the goalkeeper as saying:
“I had a lot of fun in England as a footballer, they were the most competitive years of my career: always in the Champions League and every year we fought for the title.
“A dream to play at Anfield. To play around 400 games with the team. Liverpool was the best thing that happened to me.”
What RTK has to say
Pepe Reina is one of the greatest goalkeepers we’ve had at Anfield.
The Spaniard was at the top of his game during the Benitez years.
We dearly miss him and look forward to welcoming him back whenever the time comes. Perhaps the legends game in a few years time?
