Luka Modric gave his take on Real Madrid’s situation ahead of the game with Liverpool this evening. Los Blancos don’t have it easy.
Luka Modric doesn’t think things are going great for Real Madrid as they prepare to face Liverpool. On the face of it, that’s quite strange.
After all, Real go into the game with a 3-1 lead and just beat Barcelona in La Liga this weekend. They’re on top of the world.
Or they would be, if not for an injury crisis. Isn’t that just the way it goes?
Modric spoke after Lucas Vazquez was ruled out of the game and, potentially, for the season. He picked up a knock against Barcelona that turned out to be quite serious.
He joins Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane, Dani Carvajal and Eden Hazard on the sidelines for this one.
“Lucas [Vazquez]’s injury has affected us a lot,” said Modric, per Marca. “I hope he recovers soon and well. The difficulties unite us even more.
“We need all the players who are at a high level. There are many injuries, but we cannot complain and we have never complained.
“It’s messed up having these players injured.
“We are fine, the wear and tear is significant, but we have to endure. We have worked very hard for nine months to be here, so we cannot complain about being tired or anything else.”
What RTK has to say
Well, if any team can empathise with this, it’s Liverpool. It’s quite amazing how injuries can all hit you at once and bring you back down to earth.
Liverpool, of course, lost Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for the season. Jordan Henderson may not return in this campaign, either.
So we entirely understand where Modric is coming from. Hopefully, it’s to Liverpool’s advantage that they’ve dealt with these problems all season.
The Reds catching Real off guard is their best chance of overturning that 3-1 deficit, after all.
