Liverpool’s chances of Gini Wijnaldum appear to be growing a little. That comes after a reported rejection of the player.
Gini Wijnaldum’s contract expires at the end of the season, allowing him to leave for nothing. In fact, he can already agree a future deal with a club outside of England.
He’s been able to do that sing January 1st – but nothing has happened yet.
There have been heavy links with Barcelona, of course. We thought they were simply waiting for their presidential elections before moving for Wijnaldum, though they happened last month.
Instead, April reports from Sky Sports claim Barcelona could promote from within rather than signing Wijnaldum this summer. That could take them off the table.

So where else could Wijnaldum go?
There have been links to Inter. We haven’t heard anything in that regard for a while, however.
A new report from AbendZeitung in Germany suggests Wijnaldum’s representatives recently approached Bayern Munich, too.
But they rejected the chance, believing Wijnaldum is too old to command the kind of money he wanted. They’re more interested in someone like Florian Neuhaus.
We find this one the most interesting. The report says it was a recent approach, meaning Wijnaldum’s people are still trying to find him a club.
That tells us that no deal with anyone is close, presumably for financial reasons. There’s no other reason why Wijnaldum couldn’t find a club – he’s an elite player with a proven record.
The Mirror claims there is a contract offer on the table from Liverpool – it’s just not what Wijnaldum wants financially. The Reds won’t budge, either.
But as time goes on without an offer that Wijnaldum does like, Liverpool’s chances of keeping him only increase. After all, the club wants to keep him and do have an offer for him.
It’s starting to look like the best offer Wijnaldum is going to get.
