Yves Bissouma put in a wonderful performance for Brighton on Monday evening. He showed everyone why he’s a reported Liverpool target.
Liverpool will likely lose Gini Wijnaldum this summer. The Dutchman’s contract expires and it doesn’t look like he’s signing a new one.
That’s certainly the impression we get with just a few months to run, anyway.
Wijnaldum leaving would leave a hole in the squad, though. He’s been a key player for years and this season, in particular, the 30-year-old has held down a position as the only reliable midfielder in the squad.
Everyone else has had fitness or performance issues. Wijnaldum, though, has been consistently solid.

Liverpool can’t ignore his departure and suggestions are they won’t. Goal claimed this year, for instance, that they’d like Yves Bissouma.
And if anyone needed to know why they’d target the Malian, they only have to look at his performance on Monday against Everton.
Yves Bissouma vs Everton
Wijnaldum offers a complete game for Liverpool. He’s able to contribute on the ball or with pressing, with solidity or on the counter-attack – he’s a fantastic all-around player.
We imagine Liverpool want to replace him with similar and Bissouma comes very close to offering that.
Just take his display against Everton. The highlight was arguably his duels. Both in the air and on the ground, Bissouma won every battle.
That included one header and a massive five tackles – the joint-most in the game. Doing that at a 100& success rate is remarkable.
But Bissouma was wonderful on the ball, too. He attempted three dribbles in the game, completing them all. The 24-year-old also created two chances for teammates.
Doing all of this at 24 and towards the bottom of the Premier League is very, very impressive. So impressive, in fact, that his reported £30m price feels like a bargain.
If Liverpool can get this one done, we’re not sure they’ll find better.
