'That’s what we will do': Jurgen Klopp already planning for Leeds United

Jurgen Klopp already has Leeds United in mind after Liverpool’s 2-1 in over Aston Villa. He’s anticipating a tough game.

Liverpool beat Aston Villa with a last-gasp finish at Anfield. It ends a horrendous run of Premier League form that saw them without a home win since Christmas.

In fact, the Reds hadn’t managed an open-play home goal in the league since the turn of the year. Fortunately, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold ended that run.

It comes at a great time, too. Liverpool host Real Madrid on Wednesday and really needed some momentum going into that.

Thankfully, they found that but it turns out Jurgen Klopp is thinking about Leeds United as much as Real.

“We have Real Madrid, of course, but then in the league, we play Leeds,” he said after the game, per Liverpoolfc.com. “I think everybody who saw them fighting today against Man City knows that it is not a walk in the park.

“It will be a tough one; I think they are leading in all physical stats in the league, so that means if you want to get something there you have to do a lot and that’s what we will do.”

What RTK has to say

This is the nature of Liverpool’s position right now – they’re fighting on two very important fronts. Yes, they want progression in the Champions League but they also have to secure qualification for next year.

And that qualification feels even more important after losing 3-1 in Madrid. Overcoming Real is a big ask – though, far from impossible – while finishing in the top four is very much on.

Leeds will be a big game and we’re not surprised that Klopp is thinking about it. Especially as Leeds try to do so many things that Liverpool also do.

They’re a high-energy side that presses and pushes team – an extreme version of Liverpool, in some ways. Klopp will know it’s a tough one, especially in light of their win today.

First, though, come Real Madrid. That’s the big one as Liverpool chase their only chance at silverware this season.
