Angelo Gabriel scored a record-breaking goal for Santos this week. Liverpool reportedly want the teenager.
Angelo Gabriel broke the Copa Libertadores record for youngest ever goalscorer as he bagged a goal against San Lorenzo. That’s history at 16 for the Santos forward.
Gabriel is the next big thing out of the Santos system, following in the footsteps of Rodrygo, Gabriel Barbosa, Neymar, Robinho, Pele and almost certainly a few more we’re forgetting.
And if anyone did have any doubt over his ability, here he is breaking a 59-year-old record in South America’s premier competition. It’s one that looks particularly good for Liverpool, who supposedly want the teenager.
Sport Witness first reported that last month. They claimed Liverpool, along with Real Madrid, were hoping to get in first to sign Gabriel before he earned too much attention.

It’s a strategy Real have used in recent years, signing both Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. It appears Liverpool liked that idea.
That was then confirmed by Santos director Jorge Andrade.
“Angelo is a boy who has been growing, developing and [scouts] are certainly watching him,” he said, per Radio Bandeirantes.
“Not only Liverpool but other teams in the European market as well.”
Well, the plan to get in there before he earns attention appears to be going up in smoke. Record-breaking goals at 16 in the Copa Libertadores will only get more eyes on Gabriel.
But this was never going to be a simple one, anyway. The initial Sport Witness report claims Gabriel is under a two-year contract with a £51m release clause – Santos will surely want that paid to secure him right now.
Thus waiting is surely the answer. Wait until the contract is a little closer to expiry and hope no one beats you to the punch.
Gabriel is showing signs of being a real talent and timing your move here is all-important.
