Garth Crooks has great things to say about Alisson after the goalkeeper’s clean-sheet against Arsenal. The BBC pundit liked what he saw.
Liverpool put in a wonderful all-around performance against Arsenal. They dominated the ball, kept the Gunners at bay, and created chances. You can’t really ask for more.
Jurgen Klopp’s brave second-half decision to go with four forwards stole the show, though. It led to an immediate impact and Liverpool looked incredible dangerous.
It was a decision that should terrify the Premier League, in truth.
But we shouldn’t take away from the clean-sheet. That’s now three in a row but it’s also the first time since before Christmas that Liverpool kept one while putting in a very attacking display.
The defensive outfield players deserve a lot of credit for that but so does Alisson.
The Brazilian is stringing some good games together and keeping things solid. The BBC’s Garth Crooks certainly noticed as he named Alisson in his Team of the Week.
“The Brazilian keeper has looked decidedly uncomfortable on occasions this season,” said Crooks. “No more so than in Liverpool’s league fixture at home to Manchester City when Alisson’s confidence looked shattered.
“Well, what a difference a few weeks and an international break makes.
“Alisson appeared as relaxed as I’ve seen him for some time and at one stage even looked like he was playing with a smile on his face against Arsenal.
“This was a very different performance from the Liverpool we saw lose to Fulham and Chelsea and an Alisson brimming with confidence.”
What RTK has to say
In truth, Alisson didn’t have much goalkeeper to do. He made two saves and claimed one cross but nothing too difficult.
But he did look very comfortable with the ball at his feet. Alisson’s passing was sharp and accurate – something it hasn’t always been this season.
A step in the right direction, then, as Alisson did look back to his best. After a very difficult time, he seems to be recovering his form.
And that gives us nothing but smiles.
