'First time': Jurgen Klopp insists 2 Liverpool stars could have faced Arsenal

Jurgen Klopp boasted about his options after Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-0. The boss believes it’s the first time this season with such luck.

Liverpool crushed Arsenal on Saturday. In truth, the 3-0 scoreline doesn’t quite do justice to how dominant they were.

The Reds pressed at a level they haven’t reached for some time, created chances, and kept Arsenal at bay for 90 minutes. It was fantastic.

Jurgen Klopp was understandably thrilled after the game, hailing the performance from front to back. But Klopp also mentioned just how strong his Liverpool squad was against Arsenal.

“All of the boys who were involved tonight are fit – really fit. Long enough back from injury, stuff like that and in really good shape,” he told Sky Sports.

“We could have lined up tonight with [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain], for sure, Naby [Keita] 100 per cent. [Xherdan Shaqiri] is in a really good moment.

“It’s the first time that we have that and we will use that and, hopefully, it will help us.”

What RTK has to say

What a different it made. Klopp didn’t need to worry about moving players about or forcing anyone through injury.

In fact, he was able to leave both Diogo Jota and Gini Wijnaldum on the bench. He could even take Andy Robertson off early.

All three had tough international breaks and Klopp rested them ahead of the Real Madrid clash. He hasn’t had that luxury this season, not with so many players missing with injuries.

It’s no wonder, then, that Liverpool’s energy hit new heights with their pressing and movement. It was like the team of the last few seasons, rather than one struggling to fit things together.

Hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come. If Liverpool can keep playing like this, they’ll finish top four and compete in Europe.
