Liverpool are going to be hard at work this summer. The Reds need to rebuild the squad after a sequence of injuries exposed some critical issues with the side. If Liverpool sell Ben Davies and sign Ibrahima Konate it will be Michael Edwards’ best work yet.
Liverpool sign Ben Davies
The winter transfer window was a hectic one for the Reds towards the end.
Liverpool signed Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak on deadline day.
The duo arrived with the club knowing that Joel Matip had been ruled out until next season.
The frantic nature of the signings indicated that they may not be long term options for the club.
Davies was a bargain buy, arriving from Preston North End for £1.6m.
Liverpool close in on Ibrahima Konate
This summer could see more centre backs added to the squad.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are closing in on Ibrahima Konate.
The 21-year-old French defender allegedly has a release clause of around £34m.
The Reds will reportedly activate the clause having already gotten close to an agreement with the RB Leipzig player.
Michael Edwards masterstroke
Ben Davies arrived cheap and he may not be the long term solution.
Many believe that he could be moved on soon with the Reds making a quick and hefty profit.
If Liverpool sell Ben Davies and sign Ibrahima Konate then the pair of deals will surely be Michael Edwards’ best work yet.
The young French defender is considered one of the brightest prospects in football.
Selling Ben Davies would take a big chunk out of the fee needed to secure Konate. Given how much we signed Davies for, it would be a masterstroke from Edwards.
