Barcelona may reverse their Gini Wijnaldum pursuit, according to reports. They’re considering a path that takes them down a very different route.
This comes from Mundo Deportivo. They claim that Barcelona are prepared to put their Gini Wijnaldum pursuit on the backburner.
The Catalonians have wanted him for a while or, at least, manager Ronald Koeman has. The ex-Netherlands boss wants his compatriot at the club with him.
But Barcelona may head down another path. They really like their 18-year-old, Ilaix Moriba. Signing Wijnaldum may create a barrier to is progress and they’re not sure they like that idea.
They’ll be figuring that one out over the next few weeks, then. As it stands, though, their Wijnaldum pursuit takes a backseat to Moriba.

What RTK has to say
Part of us just wants this saga to end. But at the end of the day, we want Wijnaldum to remain at Liverpool.
So with that in mind, this is good news. The only way Barcelona don’t sign him is if they find a different direction, after all.
Moriba might be that direction, allowing them to keep a younger squad, rather than add another 30-year-old.
Wijnaldum is certainly far better than Moriba right now, though. It’ll depend on how determined they are to have a winning side right now.
The Dutchman gives them a shot at that, whereas Moriba represents a brighter future. If he fulfils his potential, of course.
From a Liverpool point of view, all they can do is wait. They’ll quickly become favourites to keep Wijnaldum if Barcelona pull out.
We might see another team offer the player big wages but will they have the same pull as remaining at Anfield or joining Koeman? We don’t think so.
This is a step towards keeping Wijnaldum, then.
