Liverpool have had to make some drastic decisions this season. The Reds have had their squad devastated by injuries and this forced some seemingly rushed decisions in the winter window. One of the rushed decisions appears to be paying off. Pep Lijnders has been raving over Ozan Kabak.
Liverpool sign Ozan Kabak
This season has seen every senior centre back in the Liverpool squad sidelined until next term.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez picked up severe knee injuries in autumn.
Joel Matip was in and out of the side until he too succumbed in January.
As a result the Reds brought in Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak on deadline day of the winter transfer window.
The Turkish centre back came in on loan from Schalke with the Reds retaining the option to sign him permanently in the summer.
After a few shaky performances he’s improved rapidly having settled in on Merseyside.
Pep Lijnders on Ozan Kabak
Having been involved in the academy in the past, our assistant manager has a soft spot for impressive young talents.
Pep Lijnders has heaped praise on Ozan Kabak for the form he’s shown in recent weeks, the Dutchman telling the official club site how excited he is about the centre back’s future:
“Ozan is a big talent, so much progression is still possible. He adapted fantastically inside our club from a context like Schalke and had an immediate impact with Liverpool FC.”
What RTK has to say
Pep Lijnders will surely be one pushing for Ozan Kabak to stay with the club.
At the moment it’s unclear whether the Reds will fork out the £18m required to make the move permanent.
The Turkish defender may be concerned about reports of an impending move for Ibrahima Konate.
Personally, I’d take them both.
