Ibrahima Konate has responded to rumours that he’s joining Liverpool. The Reds close in on his signature, according to reports.
Per the Athletic’s report, Konate would cost Liverpool around £35m. That’s thanks to a release clause that allows for a relatively straight-forward transfer.
It’s a great price, too, given he’s a 21-year-old defender with elite-level experience. You don’t find many of those these days, let alone for a reasonable price.
Now begins the wait-and-see part, of course, as we learn if the rumours have truth to them. But what does the player have to say?

Konate commented on Monday, as per L’Equipe. The French outlet also confirmed the Athletic’s initial report with their sources.
“I woke up, I saw my phone ringing all around, I just wanted to tell them ‘Hey, I played yesterday, I’m tired, leave me alone,” said Konate.
“Frankly, I don’t even pay attention. We can’t focus on [rumours] – there is the Euros and then I return to my club. You have to focus on that and not on the outside things.”
What RTK has to say
Pretty much what you’d expect from a player, really. Konate isn’t giving anything away – though, he’s also not denying things.
We can’t read much into any of it, then. The bigger story might be L’Equipe backing up the Athletic’s story.
That’s two decent sources who believe a deal is close. It’s reason to get a little excited about a potential transfer.
But things certainly aren’t wrapped up and we’ve seen deals collapse when even closer than this. Konate, though, would be a fine signing and one we hope Liverpool get over the line.
