Liverpool are pushing through a medical as they try to strike a deal for Ibrahima Konate, according to reports. This is a stressful moment, however.
It seems Liverpool have their man. The Athletic reported on Monday that the Reds want Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
They’d pay around £35m – his release clause – to sign Konate. And that’s a very good price.
He’s still only 21 but has plenty of Bundesliga and Champions League experience. Konate is used to playing in a good side that presses high and looks to move quickly – Liverpool can’t ask for much more.
His young age is the shining light, though. To already be this established as a centre-back at 21 is fantastic and sets him apart from most in Europe.

Konate, then, has truly immense potential. Liverpool will hope to get it out of him and if they do, £35m will be a bargain.
But while everything feels like a sure-thing, the most stressful part of it all is still to come.
Is he okay?
Konate has one red flag – his injury history. The Frenchman has missed plenty of games over the last few years with various ailments.
Everything else about the deal – his potential, his readiness, his fit – are comfortable. Even the fee is straightforward as it’s a release clause.
But it all only works if Konate isn’t injury prone. And that makes the next step a stressful one.
RMC Sport claim Liverpool are pushing Konate through medical tests at the moment. Some are complete and there’s more to come.
This is the part where Liverpool learn if they’re got a steal, here. If Konate looks good, then everything about this deal works. The Reds can reasonably assume he’ll overcome his injury woes.
But there’s always the chance they learn why he’s having so many problems. And that at the very least takes the shine of things – at worst, we get a Nabil Fekir situation.
Hopefully, everything comes through well, then. Liverpool have a potential star in their grasp – if all goes well.
