Liverpool have links to two RB Leipzig stars but the Reds might be getting carried away. There’s a cautionary tale to consider.
RB Leipzig are a team with a lot of talent and that explains the links with Liverpool in recent days.
Both are top players, with Konate being someone with enormous potential and Sabitzer an excellent midfielder in his prime. Given Liverpool likely want a centre-back and a midfielder, their interest makes complete sense.
But are they getting a little carried away? There’s a reason for caution here.

Players from RB teams don’t always succeed, even when they feel like sure things. We include both RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg in that.
Each club, operating under the same system, are fantastic at finding players when they’re young, developing them into top-level stars, and getting them to play at a high standard.
Only, that doesn’t necessarily translate to new teams.
Erling Haaland is an example of it working, of course – he’s been sensational for Borussia Dortmund after shining for Salzburg. His teammates, however, haven’t.
Hwang Hee-Chan left Salzbug for Leipzig last summer but the forward hasn’t scored a single goal this season. He’s struggling to even start games, in fact.
And importantly, Liverpool didn’t get everything they hoped out of Takumi Minamino. His impact was minimal before his loan to Southampton this season.
So what about RB Leipzig? Well, Naby Keita was a high-profile departure a few years ago. Again, Liverpool haven’t seen his best. The talent is there and glimpses happen but not enough to justify his £53m fee.
Timo Werner is another example of a player struggling to adapt. He joined Chelsea for £50m after years of success at Leipzig.
But 23 Premier League starts have seen five goals. He just hasn’t carried his form over.
This happens a lot with RB players and it should give Liverpool caution. They certainly need a centre-back and midfielder this summer but putting their eggs in the RB basket is risky.
