Liverpool are going to have a big summer transfer window. The Reds have no choice but to react to this season’s disastrous performance in the league. Jürgen Klopp could well have his first signing sorted soon. Liverpool are reportedly closing in on Ibrahima Konate and he’s been described as superior to Dayot Upamecano.
Liverpool close in on Ibrahima Konate
This season has seen every senior pro centre back at Liverpool sidelined until the 2021/22 campaign.
Although a couple of defenders were brought in during the winter window the roster for next term is up for debate.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are close to a deal for Ibrahima Konate.
The 21-year-old French centre back has attracted interest from throughout Europe and the Reds are allegedly set to pay his £34m release clause.
Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano
This season Ibrahima Konate has played second fiddle to Dayot Upamecano.
Upamecano was also thought to be on the Reds’ radar but he has agreed a move to Bayern Munich.
David Ornstein has this week said that many coaches believe Konate to be the better prospect of the two, telling the Red Agenda Podcast:
“There were many people around RB Leipzig, Bundesliga and the French international set up who have told us over time that Konate is rated as the superior prospect than Upamecano.
“21-years old he has got all of the physical and technical attributes to be a world class central defender.”
What RTK has to say
Konate has been unfortunate with injuries which have allowed Upamecano to nail down a starting spot ahead of him.
Liverpool bagging Konate would well be an incredible piece of business, many have been left unimpressed by Upamecano’s Champions League performances.
We haven’t seen much of Konate but hopefully we will do in the next year, at Anfield.
