Liverpool signing Ibrahima Konate would surely mean centre back sold

Liverpool are hopefully going to be a very different side next year. The Reds have been rocked by injuries this term and the higher ups will be determined to make sure that fitness issues can’t derail us again. With Liverpool reportedly close to signing Ibrahima Konate, a centre back is sure to be sold in the summer.

Centre back issues

The centre of Liverpool’s defence has been cursed this season.

We lost Virgil van Dijk for the season in October and Joe Gomez suffered the same fate just a few weeks later.

Joel Matip lasted until January before he too was sidelined until the 2021/22 campaign

Even backup centre backs Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have spent time on the sidelines.

Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies were brought in to plug the gap but their long term futures are uncertain.

Liverpool close in on Ibrahima Konate

The Reds appear to already be getting to work on sorting their centre back roster out for next season.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are set to bring in Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds will reportedly activate the 21-year-old’s £34m release clause.

The move is described as the Premier League’s first major signing of the summer.

The transfer is also indicative of Michael Edwards looking to get his business done before the Euros.

Centre back to be sold

Liverpool bringing in Ibrahima Konate could mean a reshuffle of the current lineup.

The Reds will surely move on at least one of their current centre backs to make room for the Frenchman.

With all fit, including Konate, there would be six centre backs in the squad.

We can expect Jürgen Klopp to be aiming for four centre backs in the side for next season.

The question is now; who will be moved on? Our money is on Joel Matip and Ben Davies.
