This summer was a relatively quiet one for the Reds, there was just a handful of first team signings made. Two of our summer arrivals have been thoroughly impressive, another was brought in to play second fiddle to Andy Robertson and has spent much of his time on the sidelines. Xherdan Shaqiri has praised Kostas Tsimikas, suggesting his chance will come.

Liverpool sign Kostas Tsimikas

This summer it was imperative for Liverpool to find cover for our Scottish left back.

The Reds moved for Jamal Lewis in August but their bid was rejected.

Within days Liverpool had agreed a deal to sign Kostas Tsimikas.

The Greek international arrived in an £11.75m transfer from Olympiakos.

Since joining the Reds he’s started just three games, though he does have Robbo ahead of him.

Even though he hasn’t nailed down a starting berth, the Greek international has settled in well with the squad.

Xherdan Shaqiri has been singing the praises of Kostas Tsimikas, telling the official club site:

“Obviously he didn’t have a lot of games this season but we see his qualities every day in training and how hard he works every day in the gym, after training too. I think this is going to pay off soon.

“I hope he gets his rhythm as soon as possible and he can get some minutes because he’s a very good player and he can be much, much better if he can improve himself also

“I’m looking forward that he’s going to be a very, very important player for the club.”

What RTK has to say

It’ll take something special for Tsimikas to become an important player for Liverpool.

The Greek international may be a quality footballer but he has some task on his hands displacing Andy Robertson from the side.

The Scotsman is one of the best in the world in his position, we can’t see him being dropped any time soon.
