Liverpool are set for an overhaul this summer. The Reds are going to see a number of players head for the exit door and most of them will need high quality replacements. According to The Times, Gini Wijnaldum has agreed a contract with Barcelona.
Gini Wijnaldum story
When Liverpool signed Gini Wijnaldum back in 2016 he was a very different player.
The Dutchman had been a leading light for a disappointing and eventually relegated Newcastle United.
He had built himself a reputation as a goal grabbing attacking midfielder, even scoring four goals in one game.
Since he arrived on Merseyside his game has become more refined and nuanced, he is more disciplined. His job is to win the ball and keep it, always shielding it and using it well.

The midfielder’s contract expires in the summer and no new deal could be agreed upon due to the player understandably wanting a pay rise and the club being reluctant due to his age.
Gini Wijnaldum agrees Barcelona deal
Given the player’s expiring contract there’s been rumours surrounding his future for well over a year.
According to the Sunday Times, Gini Wijnaldum has agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season.
Duncan Castles claims that the Dutchman will become the first signing of the second Joan Laporte era at the Catalan club.
What RTK has to say
If Gini Wijnaldum is to join Barcelona then it is a sad day for Kopites everywhere.
Whilst we understand why he would want to join the La Liga side, given the history between the Dutch and the club, it will hurt nonetheless.
We can only wish him the best, he’s a modern day icon at Anfield.
