Gini Wijnaldum contract saga

All year fans have been wondering whether or not the Reds would tie Gini down to a new deal.

The Dutchman signed for the club back in 2016 and he’s become a key cog in the midfield machine since.

Last summer the ex-Newcastle man entered the final year of his contract on Merseyside.

All season there’s been rumours of a move abroad but no progress on a renewal of his deal at Anfield.

Gini Wijnaldum to join Barcelona

This weekend saw a decisive development in the situation.

The Sunday Times reported that Gini Wijnaldum has agreed to join Barcelona over the summer.

The Reds midfielder has allegedly agreed a pre-contract deal with the Catalan club and he will become the first signing of the second Joan Laporta era.

The move would come as a big backing of Ronald Koeman who allegedly made signing Gini a top priority.

Curtis Jones and Gini Wijnaldum

There is always a silver lining.

Curtis Jones must be licking his lips at the Gini Wijnaldum news.

Whilst the Scouser will obviously be upset that his side are set to lose a key player, he must be excited about the opportunities it opens up for him.

The 20-year-old can take on a more important role in the side in the Dutchman’s absence.

It is one less player ahead of him in the pecking order and the Scouser could realistically mould his game to fill the void the Dutchman is set to leave.
