Liverpool are going to have a busy summer ahead of them. The Reds are going to have to rebuild the squad to an extent. Jürgen Klopp will surely be looking at selling off perpetually injured and disappointing stars. We’ll certainly need a midfielder. Liverpool didn’t learn a lesson from Emre Can and they look set to repeat the mistake with Gini Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum contract expiring
The Reds brought Gini Wijnaldum in from Newcastle United in 2016.
The Magpies had just been relegated but the Dutchman was a leading light for the struggling side.
During his stay at Anfield the midfielder has dropped further down the pitch, becoming a box-to-box dynamo.
This summer the ex-Newcastle man’s contract expires and a new deal doesn’t appear to be on the horizon.

Gini Wijnaldum agrees Barcelona deal
Naturally there are plenty of suitors for the midfielder.
Whilst there may be rife interest in Gini it appears one club has one the race.
The Sunday Times have reported that Gini Wijnaldum has agreed to join Barcelona in the summer.
The move would come as no surprise given the year long overtures and the Dutch connection to the Spanish side.
Emre Can lesson
We’ve been here before, losing an important midfielder on a free.
FSG should’ve learned their lesson when Emre Can joined Juventus on a bosman in 2018.
A new deal for Gini Wijnaldum should’ve been negotiated a couple of years ago to avoid the situation we’re in now.
We’re about to lose one of the world’s most dynamic midfielders on a free transfer because of a lack of foresight, it is a rare error in squad management from FSG but it’s one we’ve seen before.
