There will be multiple exits at Liverpool this summer, according to reports. The Reds are looking to make changes.
This comes from the Independent. They claim there will be a summer ‘clear-out’ at Liverpool that will see several exits.
The report names both Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri, as well as suggesting that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be off. There’s a hint, too, that the latter could be available cheap.
But they won’t be the only ones. ‘A number of less high-profile players need to be offloaded’, they say. Presumably, that means players currently off on loan, of which there are nine.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool don’t typically do things this way, so this is pretty interesting. It sounds as though the first-team will largely stay intact but there will be an overhaul of squad options.
Origi, Shaqiri and Oxlade-Chamberlain have all been prominent squad players over the last two or three years. Moving them on necessitates incomings and there are a couple of ways to do that.
One way is to move for proven, reliable quality. Players who aren’t first-XI level but are capable of playing a role.
The other is youth. It’s far less reliable but there’s the potential for growth. They may not be first-team quality now but they could be in a year or two.
In reality, we’ll likely see a mix.
As for the loan players, we recently wrote about them. We think there is only really one out of the nine with an obvious future – Harvey Elliott.
The others feel disposable right now. They’ll surely be sold for funds to reinvest.
But one thing the ‘clear-out’ does show is the need for attacking improvement. Harvey Elliott could be the simple Shaqiri replacement but for Origi, we’ll want something more.

Getting more goals off the bench is vital. We’ve seen this season how goals can dry up but Origi just hasn’t been capable of providing them.
Jota has been, of course, though his injury simply highlighted the over-reliance on Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
So we hope Liverpool opt for reliability, there.
Overall, though, it sounds like the Reds will really shake things up this summer.
