Liverpool are finally interested in entering the race to sign in-demand Celtic striker, Odsonne Edouard, according to reports.

This comes from Ian McGarry, per the Transfer Window Podcast. He says that Edouard, who is entering into the final year of his Celtic contract, has been heavily tipped with a move to the Premier League.

The French forward, who has 20 goals in 33 appearances this season, is currently being tracked by Arsenal and Leicester City.

Edouard to Liverpool?

However, McGarry claims that the reigning Premier League holders, too, have joined the market to land the highly-rated 23-year-old.

“Liverpool and Arsenal are two teams who are chasing Odsonne Edouard of Celtic, Duncan, a player who we have mentioned a few times on the podcast. Mostly with regards to Arsenal’s interest,” McGarry said.

“What I think is interesting about the fact that Liverpool have entered the equation is that they have done so on the basis that they expect or at least suspect one of the front three of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane may leave in the summer.”

What RTK has to say

Now, this is a transfer rumour we can certainly get behind.

The fact that Liverpool are interested in Edouard suggests that the club have plans to utilise their successful transfer model to deadly effect once again this summer.

What we mean by this, is that Liverpool will prioritise the signings of uncharted talents, who have the potential to become world-beaters in two to three years time – as opposed to ready-made game-changers.

It’s a pattern the club have profited from in the past following the successful acquisitions of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and even Mohamed Salah.

Rather than go down the superstar route to sign players such as Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, a player of Edouard’s quality and relatively low profile could work in Liverpool’s favour.

This is a transfer development that is certainly worth keeping an eye on in the coming months.

After all, there was a certain Virgil van Dijk, whose talents were previously utilised at Celtic Park, that has proven to be one of the club’s all-time transformative signings.
