Liverpool want Odsonne Edouard, according to reports. It would be a transfer that sees Jurgen Klopp get his wish.
It appears Liverpool want Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard. That’s according to Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast.
Now, it’s the only link we’ve seen and not the strongest ever. We’d still need to see more details on this one before deciding Liverpool are pursuing the right move.
We don’t know, for instance, how much Celtic would want for their star forward. What is for sure, though, is that Edouard is the kind of player Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants.
The Athletic claims that Klopp has a priority for this transfer window. He wants a new forward.

Importantly, though, he wants an addition – not a replacement. Klopp wants someone who can supplement his current stars, rather than take over as the new superstar.
It feels obvious what kind of player that should be. The Daily Mail claims Liverpool want to sell Divock Origi and reinvest the funds, meaning a replacement striker is almost certainly the answer.
Without Origi, Liverpool wouldn’t have a traditional no.9. They’d surely want to sign one.
Edouard, then, would be a wonderful option. He’s a proven goalscorer, given his record in Scotland, but there’s still enough of a question about him that he wouldn’t cost a fortune.
On top of that, he’s still just 23. That’s old enough to be in the first-team setup but young enough that Klopp and co. could develop him considerably.
So we think Edouard would be a fine signing, depending on Celtic’s demands. He’s got potential but proven quality, and is the supplemental option that Klopp supposedly wants.
Even if Liverpool don’t move for the Frenchman in the end, they’re on the right track. Keep searching for players like this and the club will grant Klopp his wish.
