There’s a huge offer on the table for Kylian Mbappe, according to reports. It puts Liverpool in a tough spot.

This comes from l’Equipe. They claim that Paris Saint-Germain will offer Kylian Mbappe €30m-a-year, about £25m-a-year, to renew his contract.

It’s a monstrous offer that comes out to around £480k-a-week. Unsurprisingly, Liverpool and Real Madrid – two interested parties – won’t match that.

And yet, it apparently doesn’t guarantee Mbappe’s signature. He was a commitment from PSG that they’ll recruit heavily this summer, too.

What RTK has to say

So this puts Liverpool in a tough spot with Mbappe. They supposedly want him, though, everyone does.

But the Reds seemingly have a chance. In fact, they have a chance even without matching that wage offer.

They only get Mbappe if they convince him that Anfield is the place to be. That’s incredibly difficult right now, seeing as Liverpool’s current players don’t seem to like playing at the stadium all that much.

That’s what six back-to-back defeats there tells us, anyway. The Reds’ form isn’t quite a nail in the coffin for a deal like this but it’s akin to handing Mbappe the hammer.

Still, there’s a chance. Mbappe is clearly hesitant to sign a new deal with PSG for whatever reason and as he enters his final year, that puts him on the market.

Liverpool have until the summer to convince him, it seems. They can’t do that financially but if that were the only way of doing so, Mbappe would renew his deal.

Instead, it’ll take evidence that Liverpool will compete at the very top. That’s difficult, given their form, but perhaps a sensational end to the season swings things in their favour.

We don’t seriously think Mbappe is arriving this season but there’s apparently a slim chance. Might as well see if Liverpool can pull it off.
