Liverpool are going to have to dip into the transfer market this summer. The Reds will have to recruit and recruit wisely. Whilst a striker arriving is essential we may also need to replace an outgoing star. Liverpool should swoop for Manuel Locatelli, his club are willing to let him go.
This summer will surely see the end of Gini Wijnaldum’s stay at Liverpool.
The Dutchman has been with the club since 2016 but his contract is expiring and there appears to be no new deal in sight.
In recent years we’ve seen him transform from a goal grabbing attacking midfielder into an untackleable box-to-box ball winner.
Gini will be sorely missed; we need to start looking for his replacement.
Liverpool should swoop for Manuel Locatelli
23-year-old Manuel Locatelli is an undroppable member of the Sassuolo midfield.
The Italian, like Gini, plays on the left side of a three and this has been an impressive season for the young man – he has earned a WhoScored rating of 7.13 in the league.
Much like Wijnaldum, he is noted for his tackling and passing ability as well as his dribbling ability and positioning.
Sassuolo’s managing director Giovanni Carnevali has admitted that the midfielder will leave in the near future, saying he deserves a bigger club. Tuttosport (via Football Italia) quote the executive as saying:
“I hope that he goes to a massive team. Whether that will be Juventus or [Manchester] City, or even another world class club, I don’t know.
“All I know is that he deserves a big move and he’s got all of the characteristics to fit in [at one of the biggest clubs in the world].”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool moving for Manuel Locatelli makes plenty of sense.
He looks set for the exit door, he’s posting impressing numbers in Serie A and he does a similar job to Gini Wijnaldum.
There is also the fact that he isn’t a name constantly in the gossip columns, FSG do prefer a left field signing, you’re less likely to pay over the odds if there isn’t a bidding.
